Bug Description
I recently obtained a Logitech LX-7 Wireless USB mouse (recognized in dmesg as a MX 1000) for my desktop (abit av8 via chipset) running gutsy, and it seems to cause intermittent audio issues. The specific issue depends on the program being used.
Listen: short skips while listening to mp3's, occurs every few minutes or so
Mplayer: audio drops out on movies for about a half a second or so, occurs (apparently) randomly, with a frequency of every few minutes.
Totem: seemed to only get the "skips" while watching movies
XMMS: Didn't seem affected, though my ears might not have been able to tell.
I reattached my PS/2 mouse and unplugged the USB mouse during a cold reboot, the issues seemed to disappear in MPlayer (only one I checked). Upon plugging in the USB receiver again, the issues returned. The only new module that appeared to load was lmpcm_usb. "rmmod"-ing that module did not fix the audio issues, though the wireless mouse was still functional. Removing the wireless receiver fixed the audio issues. Changing the USB port the receiver is connected to does not fix the issue (various ones on the back and front of the case). The issue is present on the Gutsy live cd as well.
The issue also occurs whether or not the USB Wireless mouse is connected at boot time.
On my feisty laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo), using an earlier version of this mouse (still an LX-7) does not seem to cause any issues.
I would greatly appreciate some help in resolving this issue, and am more than willing to provide any files needed.
EDIT: I should mention that the drops are present in mplayer with -afm mad, -afm ffmpeg, and -afm mp3. Using -ao oss (rather than alsa) seems to work around the issue, but it may just take longer for the drops to present themselves.
I tried to reproduce the issue on my laptop with a gutsy live cd, and was unable to. I can reproduce it on my desktop with the Gutsy live cd also, so I think it's either a hardware issue with my desktop hardware, or some kind of driver issue for my desktop hardware.
