Bug Description

fsck should not run at boot periodically!

This is a major usability issue, especially on laptops, but to a large extent on laptops too. This problem can, and to some extent has been solved:

Any usability issue such as this is a large contributing factor to But #1

The fix for this bug depends on AutoFsck being packaged (Bug #151446) and implemented into the current system.

This is being fixed for Hardy. You can press escape to cancel a fsck.

I should say in Hardy you will be able to press escape to cancel a fsck. In gutsy, you can press Ctrl+C which I do NOT recommend, as it could DAMAGE your filesystem. There is also a file you can edit to cancel periodic fsck's. http://ajlcom.instantspot.com/blog/2007/7/27/How-to-change-FSCK-check-disk-frequency-in-Ubuntu

Saying this issue is fixed by beeing able to cancel a running fsck is like saying running out of gas while driving a car is ok because you can always push the car...
Of course beeing able to cancel the fsck makes it somehow bearable, but the point is that i don't want to cancel the fsck _sometimes_, i want to cancel it _everytime_! When i switch on the computer i want to use it now, not maybe after 30 minutes, when the fsck is finished. The only time when i don't care how long the computer will run, is when i switch it off.
