Wish: Assigning Static Consoles To Users Hopefully Improving Multiuser Workflow

Bug #172430 reported by Victor B. Gonzalez on 2007-11-27

Bug Description

to much clickity click when a single system may have several accounts. It would be nice if users on a system can be assigned a static console.

when the monitor is locked or may be sleeping, the steps it takes for a user to log in are laborious.

1. wake up the monitor and wait 1 to 5 seconds.
2. if the current account is locked check to see who is logged in.
3. it is not you so 1. click switch user. 2. highlight your account if you can find it. 3. click activate.
4. if you're not in the list click "start new session" and wait...

they're more clicks involved if the current account is not locked. depending on the users setup switching users can become even more painful. The wish is simple. by assigning a user a static console you get rid of all of the steps above. A user will only have to know what console belongs to them. so if user A OR B have accounts on the same computer and F7 is user A and F8 is user B. user B when coming from left field types Ctrl+Alt+F8 and is greeted with either their desktop, locked dialog OR login screen.

I hope this makes sense
