Dell keyboard does not work

Bug Description

I am using a standard Dell keyboard. The keys only work within Firefox browser. (That's why I am able to type this). When I try to "install" any package, the validation window comes up for entering root password, but the moment I press ANY key, the window closes automatically.

On another note, the terminal window also does not open.

The keys work in Firefox and OpenOffice. Package installation validation is constantly a problem. I am also unable to open any terminal window. I think the two problems might be related.

Its a regular USB keyboard and is connected to a USB port at the back of the computer. I have changed the USB ports to make sure that the port is not a problem.

Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find out what additional work should be done on this bug.

This problem seems to have disappeared with newer installations of Ubuntu. There hasn't been any problem lately.
