Desktop ilooks strange in LiveCD with ati X700

Bug #163871 reported by Limax on 2007-11-19

Bug Description

I downloaded the live cd and started iit and the desktop looks very strange. If you set the Appearance Preferences > Visual Effects to normal it is ok. But if someone does not know what to look for, this is almost impossible with this strange looking Desktop.

Over the entier screen, there are are alternating squares. The firs square looks ok, the second shows strange colors, the third is ok again and so on. I guess there are around 70 such squars in the horizontal direction.

The live cd should start with visual effects turned of ;)

What graphics hardware to you have? Could you provide us with the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file that is generated when you insert the live cd?
If it feels more comfortable to you, you can always switch to a terminal window (which should display correctly) using Ctrl+Alt and one of your function keys (F1,F2,...).
Thank you for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!
