Bug Description

Fresh install of Gutsy on laptop takes over 3 minutes to boot.

Problem was not happening on 7.04, where usual boot time was around 1 minute. I have timed the boot time on 7.10 (no additional software other than fresh 7.10) and it takes 3 minutes.

A black screen is shown, whereas previously there was a Ubuntu "bar" going from side to side. That is gone now.

Windows XP on same machine boots in under 1 minute.

Try booting without usplash. Remove all the options "splash silent quiet" from grub and replace them with "vga=normal".

Great!

My boot time is not just under 1 minute!!! This time, I see the text with boot information.
My menu.1st changed from:

title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=7ec2932a-1525-4279-a3fc-bbccce39b59a ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic
quiet

to

title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=7ec2932a-1525-4279-a3fc-bbccce39b59a ro vga=normal
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic
vga=normal

This fixed the problem! Thanks!

BTW, is there a plan to fix this? I had done all updates and the problem persisted.

Since this problem was resolved almost a year ago I don't see why should this bug remain open. Please reopen if you make the changes back and the problem is still there.
