Bug Description

Compaq s6720s crashes during installation of both Gutsy and Feisty. I guess it's too new to be supported yet.

I installed Gutsy 32bit without trouble.

I've done more research. They come with different graphics card. My card is within the "Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family". Which doesn't seem to work, crashes during installation as said in the bug report.

I tried to install Gutsy 64bit on my 6720s (GR644ET) and it works perfectly. My card is an X3100. The only problem is you can only watch videos or have 3D effects. BTW, it works in Fedora 8.

I would guess that Egon also has the X3100 card. In which case this bug report only concerns Compaq 6720s with "Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family" graphics cards. It's good that we seem to pin point the problem.

AFAIK, 965 graphics is the same as X3100. You can look at my lspci output in the attachment.
You should also post your output of lspci here.

Hm, it crashes before I'm able to install anything. Both the text mode install on the alternate CD and the normal install process. Any ideas on how to obtain the lspci then? (I'm not an experienced Linux user) If it works during a normal installation for you, and not for me, something must be different. I guess lspci would be good to have. All ideas are welcome.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. When you say it crashes during setup do you mean that it fails to boot to the graphical desktop environment or that the installer on the LiveCD actually crashes? Thanks in advance.
