Launchpad is drowning in obsolete bug reports

Bug Description

When I'm looking for bug reports that are relevant to my problems, I tend to find tons of bug reports dating back several years. Typically, somebody is reporting some obscure installation problem, somebody else commented "that's funny, did you try this?", and the bug report then lies fallow since Breezy. I guess this partly explains why there are ~10 000 "new" bug reports in the database?

Who - if anybody - is responsible for dealing with, respondig to, and closing bug reports? I usually file reports when I encounter a problem, but Launchpad is feeling more and more like a black hole where bug reports go in, but nothing ever comes out of it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This isn't really a bug report as such and it might make more sense to raise your question in the support tracker - https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ . However, the Ubuntu Bug Squad is tasked with triaging bug reports and ensuring that they move from a "New" status to "Incomplete" or "Confirmed". You can find out more about the Bug Squad, and how to participate at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/ . If you have any more specific questions feel free to contact me directly. Thanks!
