The OpenOffice.org applications menu entries are bugged in Xubuntu.

The default entry in the desktop file looks like:

Exec=ooffice -writer %U

Xfce does not support options after the command so it should be altered to:

Exec="ooffice -writer %U"

Otherwise you don't start the desired application directly but an intermediate menu where you then can create a new file and select the correct application.

The bug has also been reported and confirmed in Xfce: http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2430

Although the Icon= changes can be skipped - they won't be needed. That's to maintain backward compatibility for older Slackware versions here.

It's a well-know xfdesktop4 issue, so I don't think patching openoffice is optimal, but that's an idea. ;)
