[gutsy] randomly takes me back to the login screen

I've been running 7.04 for some time without any problems, and recently upgraded (via update manager) to 7.10. Since the upgrade, ubuntu has randomly (and frequently) dropped me back to the login screen. The problem happens in all three visual-effects modes. This has happened during seemingly disconnected events, and I only noticed the problem stopping when changing sessions to terminal-only.

I decided to give the full 7.10 install a try, but I've had the same problem. I'm currently typing up this post from within the 7.10 live CD, and it isn't causing any problems.

Relevant Specs:
Pentium P4 2.60ghz
Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200
Lots of RAM.

Again - no problems with 7.04.

I'd love to post an error log, but I'm not sure how to do that. If somebody could walk me through an error dump, I'd be glad to provide it here.
