As the original developer, I haven't touched this application for quite a while. I'll try to be responsive with upstream changes (of the small kind) to ease packaging, if it is requested.

This is now in debian/unstable, and thus I can presume this issue is "done", even though it might take some time for this to be imported into ubuntu.
