Bug Description

I use Ubuntu GNOME 16.04, the trackpad (touchpad) features does not work. I can move cursor, but tapping and scrolling does not work. It is working perfectly in 14.04 on my dual boot 14.04/16.04. Moreover, in 16.04 there is no trackpad option under mouse and touchpad (settings).

I followed this procedure without succeed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection (Section 2/4), requested files are attached. There is no Xorg-log in /var/log/, I so I provide

cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices

xinput --list | tee ~/xinput

cat /var/lib/gdm3/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log | tee Xorg.0.log

I would be grateful for any help provided.

Okay. It appears the touchpad options aren't set. You can likely temporarily fix this by typing:

xinput set-props 14 321 2 3 0 0 1 3 0

I also attached a screenshot of:

unity-control-center mouse

You're saying that there is no touchpad controls in that display?

Thank you.

Thank you for the hint. I tried this:

k2@kermit16:~$ xinput list-props 14|grep 321
 Synaptics Tap Action (321): 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0

k2@kermit16:~$ xinput set-prop 14 321 2 3 0 0 1 3 0
k2@kermit16:~$ xinput list-props 14|grep 321
 Synaptics Tap Action (321): 2, 3, 0, 0, 1, 3, 0

That helped a lot. I can now using the touchpad for tapping and for dragging windows, but I must renew this after every login.

I do not use Unity, but GNOME. So there is no unity-control-center. In my

gnome-control-center mouse

on 16.04 the touchpad controls are missing - see attachment. I see these controls under 14.04.

I found a better method for activating touchpad features:

1. Start dconf-editor via Alt-F2.
2. Navigate to org/gnome/desktop/peripherals/touchpad.
3. Activate field tap-to-click.
4. Optional choose your preferred scroll method on field scroll-method.
5. Close dconf-editor.

This setting is permanent in contrast to a setting via xinput set-prop.

Touchpad controls on gnome-control-center are still missing.

@Klaus : Even after the settings in dconf-editor as mentioned by you, I'm unable to get my scroll working.

Scroll still doesn't work.
Tap works fine since beginning.
Touchpad controls on gnome-control-center missing.

My elantech touchpad are not configurable even through dconf-editor. Such settings as tap-to-click and natural-scroll are enabled, but doesn't work. Touchpad section on gnome-control-center are missing too. Fn+f9 (Disable touchpad) shortcut are not functional.
