[Gutsy Final Release] System> Preferences> Sessions is broken!

Bug #154682 reported by brokencrystal.com on 2007-10-20
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone

Bug Description

This is the final release of Gutsy.

System> Preferences> Sessions is broken! When I go to the Startup Programs tab and click the Add button and add an application, it appears to work fine, until I close the window. When I go to System> Preferences> Sessions and Startup Programs tab again, the entry I put in is gone. I cannot add anything to startup.

If I go to a command line and enter :~$ sudo gnome-session-properties I can enter new startup entries under the Startup Programs tab and when I close it and reopen it again, they are still there. This appears to be functioning properly, even after reboot, it remains in my Startup Programs tab. If I go back to System> Preferences> Sessions again, my entry is lost, but if I go to a command line and use sudo, my settings are still there. When I restart the computer, nothing that I entered in sessions using sudo will start either.

I cannot start avant-window-navigator or screenlets through sessions when my computer starts because the Sessions Manager for Gutsy appears to be broken.

Thank you,

I figured out a work-around to get by for now...

If I make a launcher and put it in /usr/share/gnome/autostart , it will add it to the Startup Tab of the Gnome Sessions Manager.

I have tried this on multiple systems now and I get the same results on all of them. (Some notebooks and some desktops)

Shouldn't this be marked as critical or at least high since you cannot add anything to the startup of Ubuntu while this is broken?

startup programs can be temporarily edited in ~/.gnome2/sessions until this is fixed.
