the same problem here i am using:
* Ubuntu Gusty x86_64
* Ubuntu Hardy x86_64 Alpha 5

 my card is:
01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 02)

for users with this card please run in console:
lspci | grep 94311

and put this information here, because I read that revision 1 work fine and Revision 02 don't.

I've got the same problem with hardy heron and the same revision of the Broadcoam car in my dell vostro 1500
Perfectly works at 1 or 2 meters of the wifi router, about 22kb/s at 5m, and absolutly nothing further. Totally unusable in my environment.

I`m having the same problem around here.
My tests have been in 4 different places. Just in case there were some material absorbing the signal.

Any CLUE ?

Hello, i recently installed Ubuntu Hardy - amd64 bit and i experienced nasty things with the wireless. First i followed the 1st thread about BCM94311 with the firmware extraction bfw-cutter or something like that (don't remember exactly because now i am in windows writing this post, :) ), and worked in the first time.... after 1 or 2 weeks i noticed that the link was lost after 20 or 30 minutes even in good signal situation... but i thaught it was interference from the microwave oven or the wireless phone that works in 2.4 GHz also.... but the thing i couldn't explain was that ubuntu freezed up and no keyboard response and manual shutdown had to be done.... the freeze issue happened very often, like 2 in 2 hours or so... depending (and that i figured out later) on the internet usage i performed... first i thaught that was azureus, but after uninstalling it... freezes continued... and i read that there were many problems with BCM4311 and found that running "dmesg" will give info... and i found like 100 lines containing something like "b43-phy0 ERROR - transmission error" and a message that i was using an old version of the firmware... but i'm sure i used the newest. now i disabled wireless modules and stuff and ubuntu does not hangs....

Need Help.... also read about problems with "ssb" module and "b43" being together or some error in the order they are loaded...

Thanks,

Santiago.-

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

MAIKO, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Hardy desktop reached EOL on May 12, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
