Bug Description

As I said in the header line, the keyboard freezes when I enable support for complex characters in language support. This seems to be a problem with gutsy only (or maybe the latest nautilus) for when I was running feisty there was no problem of this sort.

Confirm.
Problem exists in both 32 and 64 bits Gutsy.

Here are the combination of problem conditions arise from:

<Condition A>
SCIM ON + Desktop for Complex Characters Input-----> Freeze
Solution: Kill SCIM

<Condition B>
SCIM ON + Nautilus for Complex Characters Input ------> Freeze
Solution: Kill SCIM

<Condition C>
SCIM ON + Applications ( Firefox, OpenOffice, Terminal...etc) for Complex Characters Input ---> Good

If Condition C plus A or B (do thing at the same time) ----Freeze.
Solution: Kill SCIM

I think the bug location is very clear now. It might be in between the application and global environment level.
Probably the recent add-in of language support in Gutsy version.

During these testing, I did get the worst scenario: my all file icons in my desktop all gone, the logout doesn't work.
I have to do the manual power off and on.

So, you are working on a fix or is killing SCIM the only viable option as of
now.

Thanks
Rahul

Problem solved.

Please take a look at this bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scim/+bug/34282

And the most important is the document in your
/usr/share/doc/scim/README.Debian.gz

If nothing wrong with your keyboard input and your system but only the input of complex characters, you should take a look into the scim documents.
I think I made a big mistake not doing this.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu beta release? Thanks in advance.

My bad everyone. I did report this bug a long time ago, however I have not used Ubuntu/Gnome for a long time now. I switched to Gentoo/Gnome and then to Gentoo/KDE so I currently can not comment on the status of this bug. However, I do know some friends who use Ubuntu and I would update the status of this bug in a couple of days.

I tested on a few other Ubuntu installations and I did not encounter the bug, thereby marking it as fix released. Apologies for the delay.
