Bug Description

Hello,

I had the following experience which made me uninstall Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

I have HP Envy 17 j100 and it has a touch screen. Installation worked fine. Unfortunately the I use external display (external mouse and keyboard) and I close the lid of the laptop seems the tocuhpad is interfering with the touch display. As result there is a constatn focus on one point on the screen as if the "right mouse button" is constantly pressed. Moving the external mouse results in selecting elements. Pressing excape on the keyboard deselects the selection but the same repeats as the touchpad is touching the screen.

Thinking on this seems, when the display is off due to being closed the touch functionality is not turned off.
I assume once the LCD is turned off, all associated functionality with the display should be off also, including the touch screen.

Does this sound as a bug to you ? How can i register this so it is fixed and I can go and install again Ubunto on my new pc.

summary: - Touch functionality of touch screen enabled when LID is off and display
- is not litten.
+ Touch functionality of touch screen enabled when screen is off and
+ display closed litten.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

One more comment - the problem I experience is due to bad fabric of the case of the laptop, which causes phisical contact between the mouse touch and the display when display of laptop is closed.

Ahyway on windows there is no problem. Seems the touch part of the touch display is turned off when the display light is turned off.

Under Linux the display turns off but the sensing touch part of the touch display is constantly on.

I need to have the laptopn slightly (3-5 mm) open so there is no physical contact but not opened too much as the display will turn on and will automatically turn off my external monitor.

Therefore I belive teh correct behavior of the driver or component should be when the LCD of the laptop turns off (even when the screen is open) the touch functionality of the same touch screen should also be off.
