Bug Description

When I use Lock Screen, all applications were closed after the screen was unlocked. Usually when I unlocked the locked screen, all of opened applications were still there. However, recently things didn't work like before and sometimes I have to enter password twice before I can unlock the screen.

Ubuntu: 14.04
Desktop Environment: Unity

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1458158/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Yes, of course, it is reproducible. Here are the steps:
1. Open some applications (Nautilus, Chrome, etc.)
2. Click the system menu in the menu bar and select Lock.
3. Unlock the screen. Those applications disappeared and sometimes we need to enter password twice.

I experience the same problem. BTW, I'm using nvidia's driver (nvidia-346) if that helps.

I have this same problem. It has happened quite rarely before but nowadays more often and today it has happened twice. It's quite a show stopper when you have to start all the applications three times in a same workday cause there's bunch of them.

With my laptop this won't happen if you just lock it and unlock just after. Today both incidents happened after it was locked more than 30 minutes. My power settings have been set to "Don't suspend" so this shouldn't be a suspending problem.

I'm using manually installed Nvidia driver (nvidia-346) and Ubuntu 14.04 with Unity Desktop. All installed graphic drivers:
driver : nvidia-346-updates - distro non-free
driver : xserver-xorg-video-nouveau - distro free builtin
driver : nvidia-340-updates - distro non-free
driver : nvidia-346 - distro non-free recommended
driver : nvidia-340 - distro non-free

I experience the same problem. Can reproduce it the same way as re1nald0 wrote on 2015-05-24:
Open applications → screen lock → wait some minutes → unlock screen appears two times → all applications are closed

Ubuntu: 14.04
Desktop Environment: Unity
Window Management: Compiz

the original bug was closed, if you still have similar issues on newer versions with Unity better to register a new bug using ubuntu-bug unity

Got same issue on 18.04 using gdm3. Very frustrating that this bug is so long lived (and closed) it seems.
