Bug Description

HPLIP GUI (the HP Printer Manager Application) should be retained in the System Tray on start up when that option is selected in the HPLIP Preferences. This has worked perfectly for years, right up until Kubuntu 14.10. With 15.10 however this fails more often than not with a message that there is no system tray.

I have noticed that with this version of Kubuntu, the bottom panel, which contains the system tray, does not start up until most of the start-up applications have already launched, whereas with 14.10, it was the other way round. I suspect that this is the problem. (I've also noted that Applications start before the Activities are establishing themselves, so they end up in the wrong Activity. This may be related.)

The reference to 15.10 in my report, should of course be 15.04.

I can confirm a problem with the HPLIP GUI on Kubuntu 15.04. 14.10 was fine. The HP icon appears in the system tray followed by a box saying that there is no system tray! When I click to remove the warning box the hp icon disappears! It looks as if there is some race condition here.

Just upgraded to Kubuntu 15.04, and had the same bug with hplip (a box saying it has to exit because there is no system tray).
