Bug Description

Distribution: Ubuntu 7.04
Application1: Volume Applet 2.18.0
Application2: gxine 0.5.11
Application3: Totem Movie Player 2.18.1
Discription: Gxine has priority over volume applet to control volume.

I'd like to describe what I did when I found this phenomenon. Just follow me and check whether it is reproducible.

First, I opened gxine and clicked the speaker icon on the panel to mute the sound.
Then I opened Totem Movie Player 2.18.1 to play a film.
(You can open other programmes to play music, film or online TV programme.)
I found I could not hear any sound. (Can you?)
Then I set the sound to maximum on the volume applet. It did not work.
Then I set the sound to 100% on the Totem Movie Player. It did not work either.
Subsequently I rebooted the computer. However, I did not hear any sound when I logged in.
After logging in I could not hear any sound when playing music or film.
It seems that muting the sound on the gxine panel leads to muting all the sound on the OS, and the sound volume is not under the control of volume applet and gxine has usurped the authority.

I did something else to confirm this hypothesis.
When playing a film using Totem movie player, I could change the volume through gxine.
Furthermore, when the sound was not muted in gxine, I logged off and in, I could hear the sound.

Based on what I observed, I concluded that gxine has priority over volume applet to control volume. This should not be the case. I think volume applet should have priority over players.
