Bug Description

This only seems to occur in ubuntu 7 and 7.10, but not in any of the 6 series. I have trawled through the information pages on the web but have found only one entry that seems match the symptoms my computor is displaying. As this is an new computor I tried the latest ubuntu distribution first, and later the 7.10 beta distributions. I have found that 6.10 seems to work quite nicely but displays this error on boot :-
unable to connect to PCI device 000.000.00
after a while it seems to clear and boot ok, this did not happen when I loaded Debian etch and the freezing doesn't happen either. The one entry that I found that is a similar match to the symptoms that are happening "freezing for about 20 mins at a time quite randomly" is to do with the broadcom built in ethernet card on my system, but I am not sure if this is the same as the thing that is aflicting my system. I have loaded Ubuntu 6.10 and this seems to work quite nicely, but I would favour some thing that wouldn't display this error message. I dont know if it is relevant but neither Debian etch, nor Ubuntu 7, nor Ubuntu 7.10 could find my onbourd USB system, nor the sound card, and as I make extensive use of a USB scanner for my work I couldn't use these distributions, There are two USB 1 channels, and a USB 2 on my new system.
If you need any information regarding my computor I will be happy to email what you require the basic info is:-
Dual core intel proccesor @ 3gig
          2 gig of ram
broadcom 1 gig on board ethernet card

          soundcard (unknown)
          EHCI USB host controler

Yes Adam,
It has gotten so bad I have switched to Mandrake for the time being, as this doesn't freeze or give error messages on boot. but I will revert to Ubuntu as soon as I have a cure, I am running Ubuntu 7.10 in a virtual machine on this distribution to try to emulate the faults and find out what is causing them. So far I cannot get them to recur in the virtual machine!

OK, let's assume that this problem was only temporary and a clean install fixed it. Please reopen this bug if it'll occur again. Maybe you could try it with a Hardy live cd.

Thanks for your help,
I downloaded Ubuntu 8.04, and ran it for about 4hrs as the live CD, with no issues, I have now loaded it in its own partition and it is running fine. I will test it on my computer for the next few days to make sure it performs as I require before loading it as my main OS, thanks again for your help.
