Bug Description

Version: Ubuntu Gutsy Live DVD, build 20070804

I downloaded that Image and tried to burn it on a DVD5 from both Ubuntu and Windows, but always failed because there is too much data. The MD5SUM is correct.

To be more precise I used a DVD+RW (which I think has a slightly smaller capacity than DVD-RW, but I have no DVD-RW here), and of course I used "burn image" and did not copy the ISO to DVD directly.

As you can see at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/dvd/20070804/ it has an .OVERSIZED filename, so when there is that file, we know it's oversized, keep an eye on it in the future.

Oh, I did not realize that (obviously), thanks for the tip. :)

I experienced the same problem with the DVD iso. Is there really any need to test the DVD iso vs. testing the CD image? If there is, then I'd like to know as soon as a DVD image is ready to burn and be tested. I'm going to use the Gutsy CD image for now. You all should probably post a note on the download page that says you won't be able to burn the disc and not to bother wasting 4 hours of download time.

I originally posted the item below on the Gutsy laptop team. I'm glad to see it's already in the queue to be worked on. A quick fix for this could really help speed up our test & feedback cycles. --Thanks.

Gutsy DVD daily build ISO too large for a non Double Layer disc

I think it would be a good idea to make the daily DVD ISO builds for testing Gutsy smaller than 4489MB since this capacity is more likely to be compatible with older DVD readers and non dual-layer media & readers. The checksum verified DVD ISO images that I downloaded for testing on September 15th, 2007 was ~4891MB, which is too large to use typical DVD readers & media.

Perhaps someone is using overburning or some other less compatible ISO image creation method to create the daily DVD ISO images.

Does anyone know how we can make that happen fairly quickly? A work-around would be ok too, but then we should post a work-around link on the daily build download page.

I try to use the DVD ISO's for my testing because I can download it once, burn several copies, install it to various laptops without relying on my internet connection the whole time. We test add-in hardware like wifi cards and the install goes a lot smoother if it can find the required dependencies right on the installation media.

The current daily Gutsy Beta doesn't have this problem of OVERSIZE.
