Bug Description

I was able to fix it by manually updating to kernel 3.13.0-20-generic.

linux-headers-3.13.0-20 & linux-headers-3.13.0-20-generic was required to resolve the issue.

What I expected to happen? Updating Ubuntu 14.04 LTS would not break my video drivers, preventing me from accessing my system without entering into recovery mode.

What actually happened? Updated to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, video drivers broke in an irrecoverable manner causing a black screen upon completion of booting, updated kernel and re-built the nvidia drivers.

It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.
