Kubuntu doesn't detect SATA hard disk (IDE: ICH5)

Bug #122691 reported by Rafał Miłecki on 2007-06-27
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone

Bug Description

I downloaded and burned "Kubuntu7.05.1-desktop-i386-Fulmar.iso". When I run LiveCD it doesn't detect my hard disk so I am not able to install this. Problem doesn't exist for Ubuntu 7.04 or openSUSE 10.2. There is part of my lspci:

00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) IDE Controller (rev 02)
00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801EB (ICH5) SATA Controller (rev 02)

Don't know if it can be relative but I'll add that Xorg takes 300Mb of my virtual memory and is quite slow. This is for another bug report, admited this just in case.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

1. [WWW] http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components - information about Ubuntu repositories
2. [WWW] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - information regarding managing repositories

I can only suppose this is some kind of unofficial translated Ubuntu distribution.
Either report bug on their site, or use our official distribution that you can get at:

Actually, I am a bit curious to know a bit more about what is this distribution.

Oh, now I understand. I downloaded this version of Kubuntu from http://ubuntu.pl/ which seems to be serious, official Polish page of Ubuntu. Now I see it's not because on http://kubuntu.org/ there is NOT any 7.05 version.

It's really stupid from this polish team that they prepare and provide broken version of Kubuntu. That made me think Kubuntu is not kind of usuable distro! You should think seriously about forbidding this Polish team using "Kubuntu" name for their fork of this nice distribution.

I'll download Kubuntu from official http://kubuntu.org/ page and try to install this again, thanks for help!

It is not impossible at all that the bug exist in the official http://kubuntu.org.
We do have lots of bugs, and we are working on them.
Feel free to open a new bug if this is the case (it would be more clear than continuing on this one).
