Bug Description

Hello.

Apache OpenOffice is very good, stable and completely free office package. It is good supported by The Apache Software Foundation. Apache OpenOffice is not related to Oracle any more. For now Apache OpenOffice is trademark of The Apache Software Foundation.

Additional facts:
1. Apache OpenOffice downloaded over 100 million times
Source: http://www.openoffice.org/stats/downloads.html
2. InfoWorld has awarded Apache OpenOffice two Bossies (Best of Open Source), one for the OpenOffice application, and one for templates website.

I have already installed Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0 from official site and I use it, but I think it is better if you add this package to Ubuntu repository.

URL: http://www.openoffice.org/
License: Apache License, Version 2.0
Notes: Latest stable release: 4.1.0.

Thank you for help.

(removed unsupportable and outdated statements about LibreOffice from description. They have no place on this issue anyway.)

I don't find similar bug on Debian, only this tread with an unofficial repository:

I think this bug will be stronger if a similar bug is opening on Debian's bugzilla.

Mozaic, you are welcome to post it to Debian's bugzilla. I'm not use Debian for now. May be in future I go to Debian, but now I use Ubuntu.

@ Alex: I'am not a Debian's user, too ^^

As i know, no major linux's distribution have Apache OpenOffice in their repository. I don't know if the Apache Fondation have some projet to resolve that. Since it's not resolving, the use of Apache OpenOffice on Linux will be very poor and marginal.

Canonical is a part of development of LibreOffice.
OpenOffice is clearly a competitor.
So, packaging this app in Synaptics will be a non-sense.
