Bug Description

When I try to transfer files from my Nokia 6288 via usb the system becomes very unstable, sometimes it will start to copy the file from the phone then 'hangs', sometimes the whole desktop crashes requiring a reboot.

I am able to browse files on the phone, but any attempt to copy the file to Ubuntu Fiesty fails.

This bug is very similar to #102965.

Thanks for the report :)
Ok, lets begin. Are there any crash files generated regarding this problem in your /var/crash/ directory?
Also, can you see anything in your system log regarding the error?
Thanks,
Johnathon

OK, it does sound like the same problem as #102965, but as that was said
to be fixed in Fiesty I thought I'd report.

There was nothing in /var/crash/

But as you can see from my syslog (attached) the crash event was noted.
Hope this is of some use. :)

Attached is a cut part of the syslog file containing the event.

Can you please try to obtain a backtrace <http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash> and attach the file to the bug report?

Thanks =)

As the problem occurs when trying to copy a file the phone, which is
acting like a usb disk, I'm not sure what program start under gdb to get
a backtrack.

Last of all, can you post the output of "uname -a" for me please? I believe this *may* be kernel related, but I'm not certain.

This is the end of what I can do, hope your problem is fixed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug does not meet the criteria for a stable release update and is being marked as Won't Fix for this particular version of the kernel. You can learn more about the stable release update process at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .
However, the issue that you reported is one that should be possible to test with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Gutsy Gibbon. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the actively developed kernel. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .
If you do decide to test with the development release of Ubuntu please comment on this bug report and include at least the minimal information requested at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
