Bug Description

When opening Chromium, it mostly opens in a small, scaled down window. It still behaves as normal, but mostly you cannot interact with the mouse due to it being so small, so you have to Alt-F4 to close it and re-open it.

Normally on re-opening, it is fine. Here is another description of the same bug experience by someone else: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=103662

This happens on Release 14 (nadia), Cinnamon 64-bit but I have also had it happen on 13.

This is my graphics card:

VGA compatible controller : NVIDIA Corporation G86 [GeForce 8500 GT] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

lsmod shows I am using the nouveau driver.

I used to have the same problem with Adobe Reader, but now I don't have that installed.

I posted a similar bug here: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/1283

I also see windows open in this scalled down view sometimes. I can't work out why though.

VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 540M] (rev a1)

Do you use any external monitors?

Do you suspend your machine or shut down? (before the bug happens)

No, I have just one monitor and this happens after a clean startup (no suspend).

I get exactly the same bug.

When Chromium opens it can be variable size, from tiny to almost-full-size. Closing it with Alt+F4 and re-opening always fixes it for me.

I'm running Mint 64bit Release 14 with Cinnamon. The hardware is a Lenovo G580 laptop with Intel 3000 HD graphics.

It happens from cold boot.

I've noticed that when it happens sometimes (will have to try again to confirm), any links or buttons positions are in the place on the screen where they should be, but the window is not displayed there. For example, if Chromium opens 50% of normal scale, clicking the menu button for Chromium where it is on the screen does nothing, but clicking where it _should_ be normally works.

I have noticed the same behavior. It doesn't affect my ability to use the browser. It is just annoying.

I also have this issue, on 2 different laptops and a desktop
1) An old HP with a nVidia 9600 GT video card.
2) A newer Asus laptop with an nVidia 660 GTX.
3) A desktop that I built with an XFX motherboard and an nVidia 260 video card on it.

All of the computers are running linux mint 13 or 14.
More info on the second (newest) card as it might be more relevant.

Just wanted to mention that minimizing all windows and Alt-tabbing back to the Chromium window also corrects it.

In addition, I have installed Chrome recently, but have so far not had the same problem.

For sure, using chrome did not cause the bug. It may be specific to chromium.

Same issue for me. Mint Cinnamon versions, well I only have 14.
I have not tried cinnamon in any other distro either. But chromium only has this issue in Mint Cinnamon for me. Other desktops such as kde, mate etc... all fine
It's something to do with cinnamon for sure.

Also affects me and has for ages. Can't close and reopen to get out of it this time. Improperly sized window responds to mouse as though fullsized (ie your cursor's position across your full screen translates into what would be that position on the chrome window were it actually fullscreen). Screenshot attached.

Hi all while I believe from the comments here this is a Mint issue I have logged bug on the Chromium- Browser bug tracker here:
http://goo.gl/TgG623

As an aside on occasions when I have launched chromium and gotten the tiny window, on closing and relaunching I am greeted by an error re "Your profile could not be opened correctly) - click multiple times til this goes away. After the above - google sync throws an error but once the sync page has launched (times out) it all comes good.

I have had this problem before. A workaround is to go into "cinnamon settings" >> "Effects" and turn off the "scale" effect for "mapping windows". I changed mine to "fade" and it works better now.

Adding the command line option: "--force-device-scale-factor=1" to the chromium command solved the problem for me.
