Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please run the command 'dmesg > dmesg.log' and attach the resulting file 'dmesg.log' to this bug report. this needs to be fixed, the problem is that the kernel modules don't load properly, you have to do "sudo modprobe cx88-dvb" to get kaffeine to work with it, then install heaps of codecs to get it to play channels. (But in dapper or edgy how come we didn't have to do this? or install the codecs?)

I knew it, but i cannot get it working through modprobe cx88-dvb or adding it to modules. I think, i have to compile dvb by myself

I have a very similar problem with my DVB-T card from Hauppauge (Nova-T model 928). It work perfectly under edgy, but not singel frame under feisty.
The card is found by the kernel (dmesg), but no dvb driver are loaded and of course no dvb folder is registered under /dev/dvb.

A workaround is loading the modules by hand
# modprobe dvb_core
# modprobe cx88-dvb
kill running vdr processes
using w_scan (http://free.pages.at/wirbel4vdr/w_scan/index2.html)
# w_scan >> channels.conf
if that worked out starting kaffein does the Rest.

regards,
Marcus

Same problem with a variant: access to DVB-T could be fixed but side effects on webcam device

Description: Hauppauge HVR-1300 with analog & DBV-T functions, using cx88 which by default did not work either in Feisty.

1. My quick initial fix was to get the drivers from www.linuxtv.org and compile and load them.
Then without any additional action, the device could properly work, kaffeine was the proof.

2. However, as I am using a Logitech Quickcam Chat Skype, I have got surprised that the webcam did not work anymore.
After investigation I found out that the webcam was initially /dev/video0 but now I had the following devices:
/dev/video0 for cx88
/dev/video1 for cx88 (I guess for the MPEG hardware, but I think the driver to use it is not yet developped from the comments I found through www.linuxtv.org)

By no means I have found a way to recover the webcam. I tried the same way I enabled it in U6.10 by compiling and installing the drivers from http://mxhaard.free.fr/ which was reported to be successful in the forums.
However in U7.04 they do not compile, I tried the last 3 versions, where the versión (current - 2) was properly installing in U6.10.

3. Last workaround will be to reinstall U7.04 and load the modules as stated in this thread, in order not to lose the webcam functionalities (after checking whether any other one has been successful that way).

I had a bug opened regarding the uncompatibility between the modules : #112698 which holds some information obtained at compiling the webcamdrivers.

I followed the instructions that provided a solution to the effects of the problem:
1. Reinstalled U7.04
2. webcam is OK
3. sudo modprobe dvb_core
4. sudo modprobe cx88_dvb

From my point of view there should be a mechanism automatic or manual to allow loading the DVB-T (or DVB-S or DVB-C) and the corresponding to the card at installation and at boot.
Easiest seem manually like a menu for special characteristics to configure (labelled for advanced users) like DVB-T, WiFi (in my case none out of 4 works out of the box), ...

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
