installer hangs on install

Bug Description
I tried installing the desktop and the alternate versions of feisty.
Had edgy installed on the same machine with no problems.
On the desktop, after choosing install, the bar just stops moving
on the alternate, i get a busybox tty error
the mobo is an asus p5ld2-vm
core 2 duo
Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) IDE Controller (rev 01) NOT the j micron
acpi=off, all-generic-ide boot options dont help
im using all pata drives, no sata
cant think of anything else to say
