Bug Description

Ubuntu 11.10 works OK. I downloaded 12.04 using the software updater.
HP Compaq with Intel Core 2 cpu, 6300@1.86 Ghz x 2
graphics card unknown - built into HP motherboard.
Ubuntu 12.04 screen was initially fine, then became unstable. Several reboots and still unstable.
Display was not stable enough to change from 1024 x 768 (4:3) for lower resolution.
Sceptre 24 inch LCD display using VGA port
Removed 12.04 pending bug fix

My E-machine AMD 64 also has trouble on 12.04 with display to a 17" E-machine LCD using VGA port, dark screen during boot with "frequency out of range" on display. It works ok on old 15" CRT display, but boot display letters are so small that I can't read them.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1026365/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I can vouch for the Emachine part: Tested on el1200-06w and confirmed with home-built machine with Nvidia card and Emachine monitor--Looks like the signal is *unusable*.

Display after full boot becomes unstable, then moving the mouse affects display. Connected 17" E-machine LCD display and stable at this time. Using VGA. Worked OK for several days to 24" and 27" LCD. UNKNOWN monitor default resolution 1024 x 768 (4:3) for Samsung & Hanns.G 27". All other options are 'default'. Richard Gray
