Bug Description

I configured an IBM Z DPM Partition to use zfs for / with no other filesystem. Curtin fails the installation as it is unable to update the initrd. Similar to LP:1918976 I suspect the HMC firmware may be unable to load a zfs root partition however I wasn't able to get that far.

ZFS doesn't seem to be working on IBM Z at all. I tried configuring the first volume for / with ext4 and a second volume formatted ZFS mounted at /mnt/zfs. Even this causes Curtin to fail.

MAAS should offer a better set of supported storage layout configurations for IBM Z.
