low contrast text bad for low vision users

The main content text is #333333 on a #F7F7F7 background. Users in #ubuntu-accessibility report this as looking fuzzy and hard to read and a regression compared to the high contrast black on white of the previous theme, they also noted the reduction in font size was a bad thing for readability.

changed background on the main section to #FCFCFC the font colour seems OK on that background, will check in #ubuntu-accessibility

Apparently the design guidelines require unreadable text. Who knew!

Here is some additional information. As can be seen in this screenshot, increasing text size makes many of the links in the footer disappear. Can you read the missing links? Can you even determine from this screenshot how many links are missing?

Since it has been pointed out the screenshot I submitted was taken using firefox 4.0 Beta 7 as installed in Natty, here is the same screenshot taken in Xubuntu 10.04.
