Bug Description

On canonical.com there is a parallax scrolling for the background and the foreground; on insights.ubuntu.com the background is static and on ubuntu.com there is no effect.

Insights.ubuntu.com offers annimations when highlighting the sections, while the others websites don't.

Unifiying the animations would be great especially since the websites seem to follow the same specific guidelines.

David,

Thank you very much for taking the time to file this bug. It is a very good point and one the design team here at Canonical are in the process of resolving. We have begun to develop animation guidelines. As these did not exist before, animation was adhoc and down to the taste at the time.

Once the guidelines are ready. They will be published and work will begin to align our animation to the new guidelines. This can take sometime as it will cover a wide range of components and behaviours with a collaboration across many teams.

I will ask for a quick decision on the wallpapers and have these aligned as quickly as possible to re-leave this bug.

Thank you,
Ant.

We've standardised this behaviour across our new vanilla-framework based updates to the sites and will be rolling out over the next few months. I hope that you like what's coming up.

We will also push hotfixes out for some of the sites out in the meantime.

Thanks again for the bug report.

Karl

The sites should now all be closer visually and in terms of functionality.

For instance, all mentioned sites now have fixed backgrounds - parallax scrolling backgrounds having been dropped by our design team.

Ubuntu.com and canonical.com are now both using themes for the Vanilla css framework. Insights is yet to be upgraded to Vanilla but patches have been applied to keep styling consistent across the sites.

I think we can consider this bug report fixed and assure you that all of our sites will continue to move towards a shared library of styling and animation.

Thanks,
Karl
