Bug Description

Hi I am using the MX4 with OTA10 installed. To be honest the scope text size is still just to small for normal use. The only way to read it without perfect lighting conditions is to go directly to the web page, (BBC , Softpedia etc are all far clearer, with larger fonts). I think this defeats the point of scopes, as you can only read only the bold black headlines easily.

One option could be to have a global text size adjustment in the settings menu, or at least the option for two font sizes and darker colours. If you add a background picture (as normal user would expect to) , the problem is even worse.

To be honest I think the text size issue (and light grey text colour) , plus no option to add scope backgrounds (pictures etc) is far more important than new options such as VPN etc added in OTA10. Once Ubuntu touch enters the real user market, as other linux OS s have, your normal user will look first to aesthetics and basic operation / look. The simple things have to be right and interesting to teenagers and older users.

Sorry for the hard words, I am a real fan of Ubuntu and Ubuntu Touch and would love to see the phone / tablet software succeed.
Also have reserved a BQ M10, very excited about convergence and hope it can be applied to the MX4, BQ phones via Miracast soon.

Thanks for the hard work,

Regards

Dave H

I agree the combination of the light gray with the very small font size and high screen resolutions makes text illegible in certain scopes and apps. Another good example is message arrival time in the messaging app.

I thing it is another good idea to improve global lisibility.

On my BQ Aquaris E4.5 I can't read many text in Apps and Scopes, because it is just too small with that small display of the phone.
There should be a global option, to enlarge all text
I mean all, everywhere. Also below the icons, also in menus, also in documents..
One global option to make all text bigger or smaller.
People who don't have the best vision would be very happy by that.

The Ubuntu philosophy:
https://www.ubuntu.com/about/about-ubuntu/our-philosophy
Should be able to use all software regardless of disability.

In the desktop version, this is very good implemented, but unfortunately not in the touch version.
So many time I am hard up reading things on my Ubuntu Phone and many times I just can't read it, because it is too small.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your comments concerning the small grey text problem on Ubuntu Touch. Things haven’t improved either on my MX4 even with OTA 13 installed and quite a large screen. I did discuss this issue with Pat McGowan when the software was at OTA 10 level but nothing has changed unfortunately. To be honest I have got used to guessing what the text is saying and moving to the website to read it fully. As you said this problem makes the scope text virtually useless, I think most people just navigate straight to the web-page to read the article.

Pat can you please help us to resolve this issue, surely its not too difficult to just add the option to have say 3 different text sizes for all scopes, the user can then simply select a text size that suits him in the phone setting menu. Also I dont agree that this is a problem that only effect people with poor sight, its just not right as standard in my opinion.

If you want to see a good example of text size / colour, go to the BBC website via the BBC ubuntu touch app first. The difference in the text readability is obvious, the same goes for many other website when displayed on my MX4 or any other ubuntu touch phone I guess.

Note, I also have a BQ M10 tablet, even on that the scope text is still rather small and low contrast when compared to most websites.

Thanks for your support
