Bug Description

Hello guys!
I want to read information for the moon phase in TodayScope. Problem is that the displayed text is to long, so I can see first word but not the rest.
I think it is really a good think with this information, thank you for this :-)

I use a BQ Aquaris E4.5 with Ubuntu 15.04 r25 dashboard 1.9.2

I sent a screenshot

Possible solution: can we have an image/icon showing the correct moon phase instead of the text?

BTW: The displayed information is not correct. Full moon yes, but actually it displays that we are in the third quater.... I think we are in the first... or does it means the moon itself is only display for three quater???

For me, the Day info scope at the top of Today right now shows the phase as waning gibbous, which is the same thing reported elsewhere.

For example here: http://www.moongiant.com/phase/today/

And here: http://www.timeanddate.com/moon/phases/

So the phase looks correct...

(although the main point of this bug, that the German translation can be so long it runs, over appears real)

This is a difficult bug because the German translation is simply to long for the available space. Fixing it would seem to require either that unty8 scope card attributes can wrap (or that the entire Day scope has a new layout that works with moon phases that are long in translation). Therefore I am adding unity8 as a bug task to see if that is possible/reasonable.

Hi Kyle,
thanks for this information. Could you please share translation with me
so I'll have a look if we could shorten it a little bit. My Problem is
that I haven't got any idea what the german text should mean ;-)
Thanks in advance

Hi Ilonka.

These strings/translations are provided by day-scope project. This is the child scope that provides the information about the day at the top of the Today scope, including sunrise/sunset, moon phase, etc.

You can see the German translation page here: https://translations.launchpad.net/day-scope/trunk/+pots/day/de/+translate

Please note that the moon phases in English use words that are really only about moon phases, like "waxing gibbous" and etc.

Also please note that the English terms being translated DO NOT HAVE A SPACE in them! That is because they are provided by the web api without the space :(

That's quiet interesting... if you have a look on my screenshot you see that I wrote this bug after I saw the term "einwachsende...", because I haven't got any idea what this should mean. After I look into translation I've recognized that there ISN'T a translation which begins with "einwachsende".
Now my question: Where does this term is launched. I'm really sure that I saw it during the last month again....

HI Ilonka,

I am not sure what you are asking :)

These strings are translated here: https://translations.launchpad.net/day-scope

Cheers!

I'm asking where the sentence from my sreenshot comes from because he isn't part of the mentioned translation. Could it be that there are more translations on another place? Or could it perhaps be that for a short time today scope pick up a translation from another file?

Hi Ilonaka,

I don't see any complete *sentences* in your screen shot from comment #1.

But, as mentioned, all the translations for the Day scope (this part of the Today scope) are done here: https://translations.launchpad.net/day-scope/trunk/+pots/day/de/

If you don't see it there, please type the string here and I will try and direct you to it.

Hi Kyle,

I can't tell you the complete sentence because I only know first word of
the sentence "einwachsend" And this word I can't find in german
translations.
I think next week should be this moonphase which it depends. If this word
will appear again, we' ll know that the shown sentence isn't be part of the
moonphase strings and then we'll see what to do 😃

Until next week
Greetings
Ilonka

Ilonka: OK I understand. That was probably a previous translation that has already been replaced on launchpad.

Hi Ilonka,

All the Moon phase translations come from here:
https://translations.launchpad.net/day-scope

I checked the German translation and I do not see the string that starts with "einwachsenden" as shown in your screenshot. Therefore, I think this translation has been replaced on Launchpad but it has not yet been replaced in released Day scope, therefore you are seeing an old translation.

Hi Ilonka,

I just implemented a separate feature to Day scope, and as part of this we will test and release day scope 1.3, possibly for OTA10.

Changed in ubuntu-ux:

I suggested some new German translations for the lunar phases, avoiding very long terms, and using only terms from common speech (i.e. no astronomical terms).

Additionally, I suggested to replace "Mondphase" with "Mond", to gain additional space for the lunar phases.

BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition
Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-13)
