Bug Description

App ratings are displayed as ☆ 4.5. Every time I glance at an app's rating my first thought is that it's been rated low, because it's only got one star. Then I read the number and realise that the app is rated highly and that star means "here is the rating", not "it's got a one-star rating". As far as I can tell everywhere a star rating is displayed it's on a line on its own, so there ought to be room to write ☆☆☆☆☆ 4.5 (nine characters) -- there is room to fit the developer name horizontally, or the app name -- and this would avoid the confusion.

====== UX Comment ======

This bug has been addressed in the new cards design and the rating attribute will be presented with 5 stars and the number of reviews or average rating depending on content type and service provider. I will add the cards attributes design specification to this bug as soon as it's available.

However, since this fix is part of a bigger redesign project, we can address this bug now by adding 5 unicode stars instead of one with the average rating value inline, as suggested in the bug description. For example, ★★☆☆☆ 2.3

(Once we implement the new cards, we should be able to display partially filled stars).

The same happens to me, every time. I agree with the proposed change.

I'm adding the Ubuntu-UX team so they can evaluate the proposal, and do the change wherever a star rating is shown on the phone.

IMO this is a good idea and we'll consider displaying the rating with 5 starts on the new cards layout. This bug is related to a project that is currently ongoing and we'll share the design specification for the new scopes toolkit once available : )

I've just seen the mockups for the new scopes work, and this bug doesn't seem to have been addressed in those mockups; is it still planned?

@sil - I've checked all the mockups again from the UOS scopes presentation and there's only one mockup (slide 9) that uses a single star for presenting the rating attribute in a card. As I mentioned, this is WIP and some of the visuals are outdated. This bug has been addressed in the new cards design and the rating attribute will be presented with 5 stars and the number of reviews or average rating depending on content type and service provider. I will add the cards attributes design specification to this bug as soon as available.
