Bug Description

If someone opens a page with target="_blank" this will open a new tab, but the browser doesn't show or tell the user that it will open a new tab.

---------------------------
Desired solution:

As discussed below, following video shows new tab opening. The transition should be the same regardles if new page opened by pulling page down or with target="_blank"

So it’s a problem of visual feedback, right?

yes, i don't know maybe just blink the tabs icons when a new tab is opened, so the user you will know that he need to click on tabs to go to the previous page and not click on the "back" button, see i what i mean ?

I agree. Just tried it and it's not obvious that page has been opened in a new tab. Maybe some sort of animation or displaying the tabs bar with the new page selected and then have it auto hide after a few seconds could be an option

@Giorgio: that’s not the use case targetted by this bug: the problem is when clicking on a link on the current page forcibly opens a new tab, without the user explictly requesting it.

@Olivier: I agree the animation shows opening a new tab by pulling down. What I meant was opening a link with target=_blank will have the same transition.

Well actually the open in new tab animation has two cases :
- opening a link with target=_blank
- opening a link in a new tab with "Open link in new tab" option ( bug 1339437 )

** Solution **

- Open a new empty tab
- opening a link with target=_blank
- opening a link in a new tab with "Open link in new tab" option

In all cases, the new page will slide from the top. Please refer to this video for timing and easing
