Bug Description

The Unity Dash, settings and a number of apps have or need search functionality. It's desirable to get consistent behavior on how it's placed, how it reacts to input and the pop-over for recent query history.

The branch contains an example which can be run like so:
qmlscene -I ./modules examples/search/search.qml

Bug 1203772 and bug 1192646 unfortunately make it tricky to test the action implementation right now.

I think that this should also work with the Unity Actions API to have a consistent action "search" that would be exported by the search component. So that other applications could invoke search easily in this one.

Christian Dywan (kalikiana) wrote :

The branch defines an action for search, to allow the shell to invoke an app in search mode and pass keywords. So yes ideally any app will be able to search in another. This blocks on API that can make that call right now.
