Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub

Strings "Memory test", "Previous versions" , "loader", "Recovery Environment"in initial screen of Grub are fully untranslated. As I know string 'Memory test' goes from memtest86 package.

Translating memtest86's strings may be difficult, see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/537998/comments/8

The "Previous Linux versions" string is from an Ubuntu patch, and should be easy to mark for localization:
 http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/natty/grub2/natty/view/head:/debian/patches/ubuntu_linux_submenus.patch

I can't find the other strings you mention, could you send a screenshot?

The bug should be filed against memtest (i think theres is already a bug here) and the linux kernel.

There are more than one untranslated messages here. About the memtest one, we can say that bug 537998 is about that. But we have also (at least) one untranslated message coming from grub2 itself, so this is valid against grub2.

status: Invalid → Confirmed
affects: grub (Ubuntu) → grub2 (Ubuntu)

@Gabor
Could you please report here all untranslatable messages you are aware of about grub2 package?

I'm working on this bug, so it would be nice to know this.

I've fixed these three strings until now:
"Found Linux image: %s"
"Found initrd image: %s/%s"
"Previous Linux versions"

Incidentally, I want to propose a slight change to some others:

e.g. "Ubuntu , with Linux etc.. " → "Ubuntu, with Linux kernel etc"
"Previous Linux versions" → "Previous Linux kernel versions" and so on.

People (newbies) could get confused not specifing what Linux is compared to Ubuntu.
