Bug Description

It seems that the language-selector translation was not exported in the latest Maverick language packs, and thus it is untranslated in all languages.

I've re-checked that the template has got the "Include translations for this template in language packs?" checkbox active and it has, so I can't understand why this has happened yet.

The root cause is that the language-selector translations landed in the KDE language packs. Fixed in

We re-discussed bug 570240, and decided that it was better for anything necessary to install languages to ship all translations. Thus I'll re-enable the stripping blacklisting in pkgbinarymangler (committed to bzr now). However, for maverick we won't upload a new binarymangler any more, it's less invasive to just locally disable the mangler in language-selector.

  * debian/rules: Disable pkgbinarymangler, to keep translations in the
    package. In Natty this blacklisting will happen in the pkgbinarymangler
    package (so that the programs other than pkgstriptranslations will still
    apply), but this is a less invasive shortcut for Maverick. (LP: #654548)
  * po/*: Update translations from Launchpad.

  * striptranslations.blacklist: Add language-selector-common. (LP: #654548)
  * pkgstriptranslations: Fix OEM mode for changed apt-cache madison output in
  * test/icecream/debian/rules: Call dh_buildinfo and dh_md5sums, which are
    both very common in Debian/Ubuntu packages.
  * Add a new script "pkgstripfiles" for removing files which we don't want in
    Ubuntu packages:
    - Add pkgstripfiles: Remove buildinfo.gz from packages. These are now
      installed by default for cdbs, and for a lot of other packages. However,
      these just bloat the packages and installed system, and all the
      information they carry is in Launchpad's build logs.
    - dpkg-deb: Call pkgstripfiles.
    - stripfiles.conf: Configuration file for enabling/disabling.
    - test/run: Add new check_deb_stripfiles() check and integrate it into all
      existing test cases.
    - debian/pkgbinarymangler.install: Install script and conf file.
