Bug Description

I have enabled weekly backup. Recently, I found the localized UI of Deja Dup is partly in square glyphs, which is also called as mojibake, that makes Deja Dup backup not work. It keeps waiting for connecting my drive but nothing progressed.

If I cancel the backup process and quit Deja Dup, the command line 'deja-dup --backup' works without any problem; it shows the right UI string without the square glyphs.

Distro: Fedora 26
Deja Dup version: deja-dup-36.3-1.fc26.x86_64 duplicity-0.7.14-2.fc26.x86_64
Locale: zh_TW.UTF-8

The screenshot is the mojibake (displaying the localized strings as square glyphs) of Deja Dup.

Thanks for the report! I haven't been able to reproduce this yet. But will keep looking.

Assigned Ubuntu Translations, because as far as I know that is where the translation for Fedora is synced from (at least upstream syncs with them).

Now I encountered deja-dup crashing right after logged in without any operation. However, manually launching deja-dup works fine.

I am wondering if they are induced by the same problem. Here is the bug report with coredump and backtrace which is reported automatically via abrt in Fedora.

I did a fresh install of Fedora 27 yesterday, and the problem didn't occur this time when weekly backup process.

Don't know why, but it works.
