I too am having this problem. I'm running Windows 7 Home Pro with U1 client 2.0.1 Client has been uninstalled and reinstalled without change in symptoms. U1 is syncing my account well on Natty and on my Android device. Windows appears to be dead in the water.

Hi, just a note to say that I've also encountered the problem when first setting up U1 on a WIndows XP pro (SP3) machine.
A simple quit/restart of Ubuntu One for Windows solved the problem.

I tried to sync a folder from the cloud to my local machine during the initial sign in process, and got the error message, so I quit the application.
When I next started U1 for Windows again, the folder wasn't selected to "Sync locally".
I simply had to check the box, and this time, everything worked... for me.

thanks for the heads-up superstepho but I think there's more going on in my case. U1 had been working just fine and then it just stopped (Windows 7 Home Premium).

All folders I've configured are, and have been, checked off for update.

I have quit and restart .. uninstalled and reinstalled the client .. set the upload and download throttle speeds to various levels including just taking the defaults .. No change in symptoms.

For me U1 is now dead and unusable on windows. The "File sync starting" (or something to that effect) message comes up when I initiate the client and it just never goes away. I'm running a broadband internet connection. No sync ever occurs.

Hi, again!

I happened to have changed my work computer from de XP mentioned above to one with "Windows Vista 32bits Enterprise".
I'm also affected by the bug. Restarting UbuntuOne / Windows, or uninstalling/reinstalling U1 didn't help either...

There's also an empty "windows-updater" windows popping up along with the U1 client.

Me... yet again.

This solution works for me (so far) :
 - delete registry value "ubuntu_sso" in key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ubuntu One\Keyring" (I suppose it's the Ubuntu SSO security token).
 - reboot computer
 - sign-in for a new Ubuntu One token.
 - it's working again !!!

Just to be sure, I rebooted again, and it still syncs.

I hope it will for others too. :-)

Thanks SStepho.

I went looking for that key to no avail. In fact HKEY_C_U\software in my windows7 environment contains nothing related to Ubuntu One at all!! not Sure what to make of that.

Ubuntu One IS listed under HKLM\Software\Wow6432node but there is no keyring key. ????
