@james - so is this still considered "triaged" from design or "fix-committed"

It's probably both.

Where is the rationale for this bug? Where is the design document? Where are the visual designs or wireframes? What happens in the event of failure?

These "bugs" which are just "do this thing" are not at all helpful. I cannot look at this bug and know what is supposed to be implemented exactly. Where does the button go? What are the animations that need to happen? Why does the user even care about any animations? How is the user supposed to use it? What do we show/tell the user when some other process is actively hitting the disk/CPU/etc hard enough to cause any IPC to time out, and the action to fail?

Rodney, that's why this bug is Triaged for Ubuntu UX, design for it is not completed yet (and hence it's New for all the, potentially, related projects).

That may be. But what are the problems with the existing design and process? It currently works the same in both Unity8 and Unity7, with the minor exception of Unity8 not having support for dragging an item from the dash to the launcher. What is the user's mental model? Why does the current process not fit it? Why does the process in Unity 7 fit, but not Unity 8? Is this a device specific problem? Why is it different for a phone or tablet, than it is on a PC?

The original request came directly to us during a Sprint in 2014 and the intention was that the 'pin to launcher' button would slot straight into the 'action' area (i.e. the place for buttons in app previews) as described in the toolkit documentation since 2013.

That said, Rodney makes a good point - all the more so considering the move toward convergence/ parity for the platform across form factors that is currently picking up steam.

Setting this to 'in progress' while we await the outcome of ongoing discussions regarding the launcher/apps scopes.

The app drawer replaced the Apps scope, so we won't be fixing this.
