Bug Description

An autopilot test is failing in mediaplayer_app, because media-hub-server is crashing during the test run. Notice in this test output:

http://ci.ubuntu.com/smokeng/utopic/touch/mako/77:20140611:20140530/8517/mediaplayer_app/1238969/

The timestamp of the start of the test is Jun 11 03:49:58.

In the attached crash log, the timestamp is Jun 11 03:50:05 2014

I don't understand how this test is even getting run as it's a disabled autopilot test.

That's because of a bug in python testtools - it still runs setUp when a test is skipped. So setUp runs and the mediaplayer-app launches.

I think that's not the real issue here though - the issue is that the media-hub-server is able to crash.

This reoccured on image #78 https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/utopic-touch-mako-smoke-daily/282/artifact/clientlogs/mediaplayer_app/_usr_bin_media-hub-server.32011.crash/*view*. This is the third test run in a row it has happened. I couldn't reproduce it locally though.

So what's unique about the CI server that runs these tests that makes it crash? I need to be able to reproduce this locally.

We need to try and establish that, and when we do I'll update the bug. In the meantime, is it possible to extract anything from the crash file that tells you where the issue is?

I was able to reproduce this once, the first time I ran the tests.
Attached is my crash.

Now I've run like four more times, without errors. Could it be that it happens only once? I'll reflash and retry.

It always happens for me every time. I'm trying to get a trace from gdb, but running the media-server under gdb seems to be interfering with the execution of the test.

For me it's weird. I can get 20 successful runs in a row.
But with

while phablet-test-run -p mediaplayer-app-autopilot mediaplayer_app; do:; done

I'll eventually get the crash. I'm not sure how to collect more information here.

@Brendan: is this still happening?
