username/password not remembered after Alt install completes

Bug Description

At first I thought I just fat-fingered the password during my intrepid alternate install, however I went through the entire install again and it seems that the username and password are not remembered. As this bug hasn't been reported yet, I have to believe that this occurs due to a characteristic of the login credentials that I'm choosing. I am making my username 'ps3' and my password 'ps3'. I do recall some Ubuntu releases complaining that my password had to be 6 characters minimum, but this one ( and Feisty for i386 ) allowed it so I didn't think there was anything wrong with it. I wonder if it is randomly generating a password for me without warning.

I haven't raised a bug with psubuntu before so please let me know what other detail you need to escallate this. I have an 80gb ps3 and used the 8.10 alternate ppc install cd from cdimage.ubuntu.com. I am going to re-install again and choose a longer username and password to verify my theory. Stay tuned

sorry, I'm going to use the 'noob' defense.  How do i get the log files if I can't log in?  My ps3 ubuntu seems to bypass the grub boot loader or at least doesn't give me the option to start at a 'recovery prompt'.

Can you coach me on how to log into my system without the username/password?  I'd be happy to get the logs onto a flash drive if I can

The installer has a rescue mode, which you could use to extract these files. I believe you can type 'rescue' at the kboot prompt when booting the CD to access it.

i didn't get the files requested. When I put the install disk back in to 'rescue' I couldn't resist trying to install again. This time I used the username 'ps3user' and the pasword 'wouldntyouliketoknow'. I can log in now. So i left Intrepid to install all updates as I left for work. When I go home I will create a user 'ps3' with password 'ps3' and see if I can reproduce the problem.

Sorry about not following directions. If I can't reproduce this problem I will motion to close the case.

sorry i didn't get the files you requested, but I was expecting to have the same problem the second time.  What I can say though is that when i re-installed with a 6 letter password, i tried to create another user with a 3 char password with the accounts and users gui tool, and ubuntu wouldn't let me create a user with such a short password ( less than 6 chars).  I do think that the alternate install generates a password for you if you do not make it longer than 3 characters, and without warning.
