Bug Description

Using the PS3 alternate installer disk, after typing "install" at the boot prompt screen clears then the very next thing I see is a "write" error message referencing /dev/sr0. The message is repeated 10 or more times over about 5 seconds and honestly looks as if the installer is broken. However the install does continue fine after this.

These are the messages extracted from syslog post install:

Oct 24 18:05:36 kernel: [ 5.036062] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1303088
Oct 24 18:05:36 kernel: [ 5.036214] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 325772

I had that too. At first I thought it was my PS3 screwing up. But then I thought it was my CD media, so I burned another CD. Still failed. So I was like hey, I installed yellow dog, fedora core 10 on a dvd, so I burned ubuntu 8.10 onto a DVD and it worked!

So just burn ubuntu onto a dvd and you shouldn't receive any more write error messages.

These are likely due to bad installation media:

Oct 24 18:05:36 kernel: [ 6.836004] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: L-EC uncorrectable error
