Bug Description
Upstream maintainer Richard Hughes has indicated a desire to drop support for fwupwd versions < 1.3 or perhaps < 1.4 in the following thread:
https:/
"If I disabled LVFS/fwupd updates for #fwupd versions < 1.3.0 then I could drop quite a lot of compat cruft on the LVFS. The only distros this would affect is Debian and RHEL-7."
https:/
"Urgh, #Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver is out of standard support but if you pay for Expanded Security Maintenance (ESM) you can get support until 2028 -- and of course that ships fwupd 1.2.14. Does anyone know who at Canonical to give a heads up to?"
We already have a StableReleaseUpdate exception for fwupd:
https:/
https:/
# rmadison fwupd -a source
fwupd | 1.0.6-2 | bionic | source
fwupd | 1.2.14-0~18.04.3 | bionic-updates | source
fwupd | 1.3.9-4 | focal | source
fwupd | 1.7.9-1~20.04.3 | focal-updates | source
This bug is to propose/discuss releasing a newer version to Bionic's Ubuntu Pro Updates, ideally synchronised with Focal's currently 1.7.9 versions.

Thank you for the bug report, Trent. I'm setting Bionic as "Won't Fix", as this would need to be handled as part of Ubuntu Pro 18.04 (which I see you've already targeted, thanks!).
