Bug Description

== Comment: #8 - Chandni Verma - 2017-01-18 00:34:19 ==
The current status of pull request for the patch on this bug is: https://github.com/openSUSE/hwinfo/pull/37

As we can see, Steffen Winterfeldt, the maintainer is a bit reluctant to make the code take the responsibility of creating absent directories.

So, I would like to request the Ubuntu package maintainer to create the following directories if not present on the system upon installation of hwinfo:

DIR PERMISSION
/var/lib/hardware 0755
/var/lib/hardware/udi 0755

Thanks and Regards.

Sebastien, looks like 17.04 version is 21.38-1 and 16.10 is still at 21.27-1 the milestone for this bug seems to be 17.04, could you please review to make sure the patch is available in 17.04 ? IBM is reporting that they are still seeing this issue.

Hi Manoj,

As said before this bug was fixed/released in the version 21.39-1 of the Debian package. (I'm a co-maintainer of hwinfo inside Debian), hwinfo is automatically pulled from Debian to Ubuntu.

I tried to fix this trivial bug in Ubuntu (I have no idea how to do a backport inside Ubuntu), but bazar seems blocked…

The attachment "hwinfo_21.38-1ubuntu1.debdiff" seems to be a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. If the attachment isn't a patch, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are member of the ~ubuntu-sponsors, unsubscribe the team.

artful has 21.46, so this is fixed for 17.10.

As stated, 16.10 is EOL.

Since this is filed as "medium", it doesn't look like this needs to be an SRU. If I'm mistaken and IBM does feel this needs to be fixed in stable releases, please reopen this bug.
