Binary package hint: popularity-contest
Anacron mails the following message to root:
/etc/cron.
.: 17: Can't open /etc/popularity
run-parts: /etc/cron.
Looking in /etc/cron.
. /etc/popularity

I see the same problem, in maverick, on a System76 lemur "lemu2".
popularity-contest 1.48ubuntu1
As a workaround, it seems to have worked to run `sudo dpkg-reconfigure popularity-contest`
