Bug Description

the snd_seq_* modules are not available in the current raring kernel, so it is not possible to plug a MIDI keyboard on the nexus 7 via the usb-otg and use it as a midi device (or route midi messages between application)

Can you please clarify specifically which kernel modules you are looking for? I had a brief look and I was able to find snd-rawmidi and snd-usbmidi-lib, but I'm not familiar with the snd_seq ones you mention.

Marking Incomplete/Wishlist for now...

Alex Chiang, could you please confirm what we want to do with these? Are midi sequencers willingly removed from the kernel as compared to the desktop kernel to save space?

The high level answer is, the nexus7 Kconfig should turn on the same options as the standard Ubuntu kernel.

So if Ubuntu turns them on, but the n7 does not, it is probably an oversight.

Probably the real way to fix all these bugs is for the kernel team to do a diff of the Kconfigs and sync them up... That was definitely supposed to happen, but maybe it's still in flight.

rtg, can you weigh in please?

Robert, it is the modules built by the CONFIG_SND_SEQUENCER kernel option

snd-seq-device.ko snd-seq.ko snd-seq-midi-event.ko snd-seq-midi.ko

I have rebuilt a kernel with this option, and everything worked fine, I could plug a midi keyboard and it was recognized by alsa
