Требуется (интернет) штаб-квартира для молдавского убунту (линукс) сообщества.
Хочется иметь доступ к последним новостям (будущего) сообщества, краткосрочным и долгосрочным планам, видению, ЧАВО и и т.п.

Я тут вижу потенциальную проблему/задачу в многоязычности молдавского сообщества линукс.
Для того, чтобы привлекать новых людей к линукс и сообществу, материалы и общение должны быть легко доступны для них. Сейчас на баг-трекере большинство комментариев на русском языке, что, наверное, некоторых отталкивает от участия в решении поставленных задач или даже более того - отталкивает от нашего сообщества в целом.
То же самое будет происходить и с сайтом. Если вступление и материалы будут на румынском, некоторые русскоязычные пользователи не будут привлечены.
Я посмотрел на федора.мд, и их подход мне нравится: многоязычный сайт с удобной ориентацией по языку. Предлагаю, чтобы у нас также было, хотя это, полагаю, будет ограничено движком.
Мне это представляется так:
Статья может быть написана на любом из трех языков (русский, румынский, английский (если вдруг ее выдернули откуда-то, а перевода нет)). Человеку, попавшему на сайт, по умолчанию информация будет предоставляться на каком-то одном языке, но будет да возможность быстро его сменить. Статьи (материал) будет помечаться по языку и фильтровать для пользователя соответственно. Было бы хорошо иметь возможность просматривать материал на нескольких выбранных языках.

Что касается сайта, всё это присутствует в Друпале + специальный модуль для
него i18n.

Еu zic ca problemele o sa apara la continut si nu neaparat la limba in

How to become an Ubuntu member, the easy way

I joined the Ubuntu community in 2004, shortly before the first version was released. Was co-founder of the dutch locoteam in that same year and became member in 2005. Since then I’ve been on many meetings of the community council, as a spectator and later as their secretary. I am currently part of the EMEA membership board, which is responsible for approving Ubuntu members in that region.

What I want to say is: I know what the hell I am talking about here, and if you want to become Ubuntu member, it’s good to read this page and listen to what I am saying :) Too many people show up to our meetings ill-prepared and that costs a lot of our valuable volunteer time. Yes, surprise, the membership boards are volunteers, like most of the Ubuntu community. They have become Ubuntu members by following this same procedure.

With that message out of the way, here’s the highway to Ubuntu membership. Just cruise along, try not to speed and watch out for any weird community managers who fancy waterfowl.

Update 2009-05-13: Emphasize the importance of working within a team
Step zero: learn what Ubuntu means

Ubuntu is not just a buch of software on a cd and some servers. The most important bit about the Ubuntu project is its unique and huge community. One of the many unique things (well, not unique anymore as more and more free software projects are adopting this) about the Ubuntu community is its code of conduct. Whenever you participate in the Ubuntu community, you are expected to follow this code which basically says: be respectful to each other. Read the code, sign it with GPG (manual) and become an ubuntero. In all the steps that follow below, you should always keep this all-important step in mind. Ubuntu is a community where everyone is welcome and where we all collaborate to make Ubuntu and its community better.
Step one: contribute to Ubuntu and its community

This is the easy bit. It will take more time than any of the other steps, but the beuaty is: you can do whatever you want! There are a lot of ways you can contribute to Ubuntu. Everybody can guess that it is possible to write code to help out the project, but that’s just one of the many ways. Here are some good ones, that I think should be done by more people:

    * Translate. Unless your native language is english, there will always be some things in Ubuntu that are not translated. If your english is good and you are not afraid of technical terms, translate some untranslated software and send your translations to its owner and/or the Ubuntu project. You will help many people near you and far away who do not speak english very well and want to use Ubuntu in their own language.
    * Support. Without users there will be no Ubuntu. Even though I like to think Ubuntu is the easiest-to-use operating system, people still need help with it. Hell, even if it really is the easiest to use operating system people will need help. Computers are just annoying things that never do exactly what you want. So help people a...

E deja anul 2 cand fac parte din comunitatea Ubuntu Romania, si sincer

Today I was called out to help a young mother who got a Dell Mini 12 refurbished some months ago, which had come with Ubuntu on it. I was surprised again because there are contacts who are obviously geeky and who have participated in the community to some degree and then there are those out of the blue contacts who need help because they bought a computer directly from the OEM and now it needs someone to give it some attention.

This machine only had one problem, she couldn’t remember the password. The guides on-line that she had tried had told her to press [Esc] and load up the recovery mode. But Dell has stripped that option away, yay Dell. So I reinstalled the computer with 9.04 replacing the Dell crusted 8.04 install and making sure it had skype and all the other user facing goodies that people expect; obviously making sure to back up her 35MB of photos and documents. I backed up and installed from a single 4GB memory stick (800MiB for the installer, 3.3GiB for data) which I now carry around with me everywhere (Very useful device).

We made arrangements to meet at a coffee shop, not that it’s too much of a problem installing Ubuntu on battery power and I can certainly understand the need for public places when meeting some stranger. Fortunately the battery power at 45% on this machine lasted 2 hours, so the whole install and medibuntu + restricted extras completed on battery even with the coffee shop’s 60MiB/s wifi connection.

I do love helping people who have come to Ubuntu, although this refurbished machine was kinda odd since I didn’t think Dell shipped Mini12s with Ubuntu and it did have a ‘Designed for Windows XP’ sticker (but no license sticker). But everything seemed to work out ok, she’ll get in touch if there are problems. We finished up and she headed out.

As I was getting up, someone on the next table raised her voice and asked if I knew anything about Ubuntu. Now i think I’ve entered the twilight zone where everyone in the coffee shop appears to be using Macs but are actually Ubuntu users. Anyway, turns out her computer has a duel boot with Ubuntu 7.04 and windows xp, she wanted to know if I could remove Windows and upgrade Ubuntu. I gave her details of my private support and of the Ubuntu Massachusetts LoCo Tuesday Education and Support sessions that we run for free and hopefully she’ll be in touch to sort out her machine too.

As an aside to my utter surprise at coming across two Ubuntu users at random. I am starting to note a pattern, they’re all women and all but one Dell users too. I don’t know what it is that’s causing this kind of pattern, but of the 5 chance encounters that have needed Ubuntu support in the last year, all have all been women. Now either it’s because women are more willing to try something new when offered by Dell, are less invested in Microsoft’s desktop familiarity or are more willing to go out and find help (and thus find me or the LoCo group).
